  • BISNIS: The U.S. Department of Commerce's Business Information Service for the Newly Independent States: Includes a wide range of US government information on business and trade with the FSU, including cabled reports from commercial officers on opportunities and market conditions. Also contains links to other useful internet resources, including other US government sites.

  • Business Central Europe: Website of the monthly magazine, published by the Economist Group, which covers economics and business in the central European region.

  • CEEBIC: The U.S. Department of Commerce's Central and East European Business Information Center: Offerings for the CEE region similar to those of BISNIS (see listing above).

  • CEDAR: The Central Europe Environmental Data Request Facility site has links to many environment-related internet sites in and about CEE.

  • CCNM: The Centre for Co-operation with Non-Members, a center at the OECD, has information on a wide variety of OECD programs in the region as well as other information on East European countries and countries of the former Soviet Union.

  • Central Europe Online: good source of news on countries of East Europe and Russia; has daily updates

  • Central Europe Review: online magazine offers articles on "politics, society and culture" of the region

  • CERRO: Central Europe Regional Research Organization gopher site, at the University of Economics, Vienna. An early contributor to research on the region, the CERRO archive includes a collection of statistical data sets on the region, election results, research papers on economic and other topics, and the archives of the CERRO-l list. May no longer be updated.

  • EBRD: The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development makes strategic loans and investments throughout the region in order to assist in the transformation of the region's economy. Russian version.

  • Eurasianet: Operated by the Central Eurasia Project of the Open Society Institute, this site offers news and background on the countries of the southern tier of the former Soviet Union.

  • Europa: The European Union's official web gateway.
    • DG Enlargement - The Dir General for Enlargement site covers has news and documents about the process of enlarging the EU to include much of central Europe.

  • Interfax News Agency: reports daily on news and events throughout the former Soviet Union.

  • IREX publications: Policy papers and conference reports issued by the International Research and Exchanges Board, a US educational organization which has long sponsored academic contacts with the countries of central and east Europe.

  • REESWeb: Major compilation of web sites in and about the region, assembled at the University of Pittsburgh. A subset of this is REESWeb Business, which provides links to business, economics and law-related sites in and about the region.

  • REENIC: The Russian and East European Network Information Center at the University of Texas, Austin: has good links to gopher menus providing information about most of the East European nations and former Soviet republics.

  • RFE/RL: Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, a US-government funded broadcaster and publisher, produces a wide range of daily and weekly news bulletins covering events in eastern Europe and the regions of the former Soviet Union.

  • Russlink: very comprehensive compilation of links to Russian and FSU web resources: travel, news, science, commerce, FSU cities, etc.

  • UNECE: The UN Economic Commision for Europe has a strong focus on analysis of economic transition in the east European region, and issues regular analytic and statistical publications.

  • US Commercial Service - Central Europe: Resource site on business in central Europe provided by the US Department of Commerce's Commercial Service. Visitors must certify that they will use the information solely to facilitate US exports.

  • World Bank: The World Bank (IBRD) web server has extensive information about Bank programs and projects. The Public Information Center has indexes, abstracts and full text of staff documents and reports since 1 January 1994 that were previously not made public. Documents not online are available for purchase. You can also search their regular publications and get ordering information.
